Just before 10 a.m. near the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa, according to Reuters, a gunman shot a Canadian soldier, hijacked a car, drove toward Parliament Hill, ran into Centre Block, the building where the Canadian House of Commons and Senate are located, and opened fire. Buildings in the Parliament complex are now on lockdown.

A Globe and Mail reporter recorded a video of the scene at Centre Block, and the paper has some more details about what it was like inside.

Here's the latest, via Agence France-Presse:

Police killed at least one of the shooters involved in an attack in and around the Canadian parliament, CBC television and a politician who was inside the building said.

MP Maurice Vellacott told AFP that House of Commons security had told one of his aides that a suspect had been killed inside parliament.

The police were hunting for as many as three suspects and one was "probably" on the roof of the parliament in downtown Ottawa, police told AFP.
