Though Margaret Thatcher's political life — and her death — have been a polarizing affair even outside the UK, that she was an influential woman is beyond dispute. One of Time's "25 most powerful women of the past century," Thatcher's toughness earned her the nickname the "Iron Lady." The nickname is famously Thatcher's, but would probably be apt to describe other prominent women of the past century, who stand, as President Obama said in his statement on Thatcher's death, "as an example to our daughters that there is no glass ceiling that can’t be shattered."
