Horses, hats and Her Majesty: Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot

Remember the racecourse scene in 'My Fair Lady'? Sure you do: the one where Audrey Hepburn tells a horse to "move his bloomin' arse."

That takes place at Ascot, arguably England's poshest racecourse, which each June hosts five days of races that together make up Royal Ascot.

Queen Elizabeth II attends every day of the Tuesday-Saturday meeting, arriving each morning in a horse-drawn carriage and accompanied by a procession of royal guards.

For those who prefer fashion to fillies, the highlight is Ladies' Day: the third and busiest day of the races, when female spectators are encouraged to go all out with their outfits.

Here's a pick of the biggest, brightest and best that this year's event had to offer.
