GlobalPost hacked by the Syrian Electronic Army

GlobalPost

BOSTON — As regular GlobalPost readers know, we've been reporting on the Syrian conflict since its earliest days more than two years ago.

Today, the Syrian Electronic Army apparently took notice of that award-winning coverage, samples of which you can find here, here and here.

It turns out the SEA doesn't much care for it.

GlobalPost's website and Twitter account were briefly hacked today by the organization.

Here's what that attack looked like, as well as the message the SEA had for GlobalPost's worldwide audience.

Here's the Sept. 3, 2013 GlobalPost story by correspondent Jeb Boone detailing a cyber war between the SEA and Anonymous that reportedly provoked the pro-Syria group's anger.

The SEA has been targeting several other prominent media organizations in recent months, including The New York Times, CNN, The Washington Post and others.

GlobalPost never lost control of the content published on our website.

That wasn't the case, however, on our Twitter account.

The GlobalPost Twitter feed was taken over by an individual or individuals who claimed to represent the SEA.

We have since regained control of our Twitter account, and will keep you posted on developments.

We'll also, of course, continue to cover every aspect of the ongoing Syrian war — wherever it may lead.
