Afghanistan: Goat polo suicide bombing kills 10

A popular sports match ended in tragedy in Afghanistan today. A crowd of 3,000 was watching a game of goat polo, or buzkashi, Al Jazeera reported.

A suicide bomber then blew himself up, killing 10 spectators. The victims so far include the brother of Afghanistan's House Speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, Reuters reported. Two other family members were also killed

"The suicide attacker detonated himself at the end of the match in Imam Sahib district this evening," Abdul Khalil Andarabi, the police chief of Kunduz province, told AFP.

Goat polo is like polo, where players on horseback compete to hit an object into opposing goals. It is a more aggressive form of the traditional equestrian sport, Radio Free Europe explains. Instead of a ball, players in goat polo use a headless goat carcass.
