As Syrian Conflict Deepens, Violence Bleeds into Iraq and Lebanon

As the Syrian conflict deepens, increasingly, the violence appears to be spilling beyond the country’s borders. Some of the worst fighting in recent days has been centered around the city of Qusayr, where the death toll for Hezbollah fighters supporting President Bashar al-Assad has been steadily rising. Many of those fighters came across the border from Lebanon. Meanwhile, in neighboring Iraq, Syrias unrest has rekindled sectarian tensions in that country.   This week, a wave of bombings largely targeting Shiite areas of Baghdad has left more than 70 people dead.Abigail Hauslohner, Washington Post Cairo Bureau Chief, has been reporting from Baghadad while Tony Badran, Research Fellow with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, has been watching Hezbollah’s role closely.
