Series of Tornadoes Rip Through Texas

The Takeaway

A series of deadly storms tore through an area of north Texas late Wednesday night. Today will be a day of tragedy and recovery for hundreds of families facing the loss of loved ones, injuries, or even homelessness. Reports from the area suggest that local institutions, like schools and churches are being utilized as shelters, while forces are being mobilized to deal with the damage.
Julie Lissy is a volunteer at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Granbury, Texas. The church is one of the improvised shelters being used in the area, where currently about 15 victims of the storm are being taken care of. According to her, the storms have caused significant damage to several neighborhoods in the city: “The most hard-hit in Granbury is an area called Rio Brazos, which is a low-income community that was dominantly trailer-homes [where] more than 50 homes have been destroyed and all those families have been displaced and we have four different shelters in the area attending to their needs”.
