(This is not a form of protest that we see in this country, what’s the reaction been in Iraq?) It’s not the kind of reaction we see often either, we were all taken aback, it was astounding. (Is anyone considering this a sign of freedom of speech? I mean, would a press conference like this have even happened under Saddam Hussein?) Had it happened under Saddam, no one would’ve known about it. It is a step forward for Iraqis that this was publicized. It remains to be seen how it is going to be handled. (This presents a very overt and well publicized test case of the Iraqi justice system.) Of course and people are asking what will happen because a lot of people consider him a hero for saying what they wanted to say. (Remind us of the status of the Iraqi justice system.) After 2003, the first thing was to restore the justice system. The whole system has gone through an overhaul but the justice system is still new and vulnerable. (For Americans who are focused on the great losses that have been sustained by Iraqis, Americans and others in the war in Iraq, will there be no acknowledgment that this man will face the rule of law for what he has done?) Many million people will be waiting for the outcome for certain and this way they will be able to judge their government and its courts.
