And now, against a backdrop of pressure for clarity from all sides of the political and ideological spectrum, President Obama has taken a definitive stand on gay marriage.
“I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same-sex couples should be able to get married,” Obama told Robin Roberts in an interview with ABC News yesterday.
