Extremely low birthrates have long troubled Asia’s wealthier countries: Japan, South Korea and Singapore. Now, they’re coming for others in the region. Thailand’s leaders are grappling with a shocking recent statistic: Its birthrate has somehow sunk below Japan’s — a potential bellwether for the rest of the Global South.
