An African king and explorer’s arrival in the Americas before Columbus

The legend of the African King Abubakari II and his explorations that led him to the Americas before Christopher Columbus is celebrated by many in the African American community. Teacher Valerie Tutson taught the story of Abubakari to her students to illustrate how Africans were more than just slaves. She shared her experience with GBH’s Stories From The Stage.
