Zimbabwe abolishes the death penalty

The World

Following months of debate in Parliament, Zimbabwe’s Cabinet has agreed to abolish the death penalty, a punishment that hasn’t been used there since 2005. Zimbabwe is one of more than a dozen countries in Africa and more than 50 across the world that still have the death penalty. Host Carolyn Beeler speaks with Robin Maher, executive director of the Death Penalty Information Center in Washington, about those remaining countries with the law on the books and whether global attitudes are eroding support for capital punishment.
