What’s the purpose of diplomatic immunity?

The World

Diplomatic immunity is the idea that if you’re posted abroad, you and your family can’t be prosecuted in the country where you’re sent. It’s designed to allow diplomats to do their jobs without fear. But that immunity isn’t meant to cover everything and it can be waived by your home country for any reason. Host Marco Werman speaks to Craig Barker, a diplomatic immunity expert and dean of the London South Bank University School of Law and Social Sciences.
