A growing number of colleges and universities are moving to add caste to their anti-discrimination policies. California State University’s 23 campuses are the latest to allow South Asian students to report anti-Dalit bias. The caste system was abolished in India decades ago, but Kirk Carpezza of WGBH reports that many students born into the lowest Hindu caste, also known as “untouchables,” feel its influence on American campuses.
