In New York, the United Nations Security Council convened to discuss the crisis in the Middle East. The Palestinian minister of foreign affairs, Riyad al-Maliki urged the council to, “stop the bloodshed.” Israel’s foreign minister, Eli Cohen, said the Hamas attack on Oct. 7 should be seen as “a wake-up call” for the whole world.
