UN secretary-general warns that filling the energy gap could doom climate efforts

As countries around the world rush to source energy supplies from outside of Russia, UN Secretary-General António Guterres warns that filling the gap with coal, oil or gas from elsewhere could doom global efforts to get climate change in check. “As major economies pursue an all of the above strategy to replace Russian fossil fuels,” Guterres said in a video speech on Monday, “short-term measures might create long-term fossil fuel dependence and close the window to 1.5 degrees.” The World’s Marco Werman has more.
