“The Quiet Girl” or in Irish “An Cailin Ciuin” is Ireland’s first film to be nominated for best foreign language film in the Academy Awards. It’s also the first time a film screened in the Irish language has done so well at cinemas in Ireland. The Irish language is pretty popular with young people there, but only about 2% of the population actually speaks it on a daily basis. Will this film help change that? The World’s Orla Barry reports.
