The US elections and the future of pandemics

The World

For decades, the United States has taken the lead on efforts to contain outbreaks around the globe, from polio to influenza. This worries David Heymann, a former infectious disease leader at the US Centers for Disease Control and at the World Health Organization, who is now a professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, training the next generation of public health scientists. Host Marco Werman speaks with Heymann about how US divisions are complicating global health efforts.
