Tennis Australia bows to pressure on Peng Shuai T-shirts at Australian Open

The World

Tennis Australia was defending its policy of asking spectators at the Australian Open in Melbourne to remove their T-shirts if they had the words “Where is Peng Shuai” on them. But the blowback was swift and fierce, including a “that’s just pathetic”  tweet by tennis great Martina Navratilova. Now the government body for tennis in Australia has backed down, saying it will allow spectators into the Open with T-shirts about Peng Shuai, as long as they’re not disruptive.  Banners though are still out.
