On Wednesday in Sri Lanka, protesters stormed the prime minister’s office. This happened after Sri Lanka’s president Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled the country to the Maldives. He hadn’t yet resigned, and that has deepened a political crisis in a country enduring months of economic turmoil. Shanta Devarajan, a professor of the practice of international development at Georgetown University, joins us from Washington.
