In September 2022, 15 members of Spain’s national women’s soccer team wrote to the Spanish Football Federation saying their head coach, Jorge Vilda, had created an atmosphere that was negatively impacting their emotional and physical well-being. The athletes said they would refuse to play for the national team until the issues were resolved. Now, with the FIFA Women’s World Cup looming, only a few of those athletes have returned to the team.
