Space debris dangers

On Monday, Russia blew up one of its own satellites with an anti-satellite missile, or ASAT. The US has detected 1,500 pieces of debris from the destroyed satellite that are now orbiting the Earth and menacing the International Space Station. Marco Werman interviewed Loren Grush, space reporter for The Verge, about why this kind of debris is dangerous, why nation-states destroy their own satellites, and what happened in space on Monday.
