South Africa’s president dodges impeachment vote

The World

South African lawmakers voted against accepting a committee report that would have led to impeachment proceedings against President Cyril Ramaphosa. The report said that the president held undeclared foreign currency at his farm in 2020. This comes just days before a key ruling party conference, and it strengthens his prospects for being named party leader for another five-year term. Host Marco Werman speaks with reporter Marianne Merten of South Africa’s Daily Maverick about the vote and its political implications.
