Sorry, Doug

For one couple in New Zealand, the Guinness Book of World Records is the place that potato dreams go to die. In November, Colin and Donna Craig-Brown, of Hamilton, New Zealand, thought they had unearthed the world’s biggest potato. They named the 17-pounder “Doug,” put a hat on it, and wheeled it around town in a wagon. Alas, they received an email from Guinness last week stating that DNA tests cofirmed, “sadly, the specimen is not a potato.” Marco Werman digs into the details.
