As the Russian military wages war in Ukraine, inside Russia, the government is clamping down even harder on its efforts to control the press. Using the word “war” or “invasion” referring to the situation in Ukraine is not tolerated. Moscow has also branded several publications as “foreign agents” or “extremist organizations.” Earlier this week, the country’s last remaining independent newspaper, Novaya Gazeta, said it was suspending operations.
