RUSSIAN FAN ID LAW SEEN AS A NEW FORM OF AUTHORITARIAN SURVEILLANCE: In Russia, to be able to attend soccer matches in the country’s Premier League, fans need to present a “Fan ID.” The pilot program for the “Fan ID” system was first launched in June 2022. This year, with the full rollout of the “Fan ID” law, attendance at soccer matches has dwindled, and fans aren’t happy. The World’s Daniel Ofman reports.
