Russian court shuts down legendary human rights organization

The World

For more than 30 years, Memorial International has been Russia’s most prominent human rights organization. Today, Russia’s Supreme Court shut down the organization. Memorial first opened in 1989 with a mission to archive Soviet-era crimes. Later, as it expanded across Russia, it also became a pillar of civil society, advocating for human rights. Host Marco Werman speaks with Russian opposition politician and vice president of the Free Russia Foundation Vladimir Kara-Murza.
