Restoration could help one of Mexico’s last disappearing glaciers

At over 18,000 feet, Mexico’s Orizaba Peak is the tallest volcano and the third-highest mountain in North America. It’s located in central Mexico, and is home to one of the country’s last glaciers. But due to climate change, drought and rapid deforestation, it’s quickly melting, placing at risk 2 million people who depend on its fresh water. Reporter Michael Fox visited villages where people are already coping with intermittent water supplies, and reports on reforestation efforts that could help — given adequate funding — buy more time for residents to plan for a drier future.
