Resist to exist

Sumaya Teli has been writing and photographing the pheran, a traditional piece of Kashmiri clothing. One of her images became the face of the Kashmiri resistance movement. Host Marco Werman speaks with Teli about her image. She’s a British-Kashmiri writer living in Boston. She writes in a weekly blog called, Mamanushka.Editor’s note: In the on-air version of this story, The World reported that some communications were coming back online. There are only sporadic landline and mobile phone connections in some parts of Kashmir. For people who are trying to connect with friends and family, it’s still extremely challenging.
