In April, the New York Times published “The ISIS Files” by Rukmini Callimachi, one of the Times’ correspondents and a frequent guest on our show. The piece drew on some 15,000 pages of internal ISIS documents that Callimachi removed from Iraq immediately after ISIS’ retreat. The removal has set off a debate about what some are calling the theft of Iraqi history. Host Marco Werman interviews Callimachi and one of her critics, Middle East studies professor Laurie Brand. We also hear from Patty Gerstenblith, who directs the Center for Art, Museum and Cultural Heritage Law at DePaul University in Chicago, on whether the removal of the documents violates international law.
