Remembering a beloved and powerful voice from Syria

The World

Singer Sabah Fakhri became famous for his interpretations of traditional Arabic music and for his unforgettable, powerful, tenor voice. His voice was so powerful that he even made it into the Guinness Book of Records for a concert he gave in Venezuela back in 1968 where he sang for 10 hours straight. Syrian American Reem Bailony was born in San Diego but remembers hearing his music when she would spend her summers in Aleppo.
