‘Patriots only’ for Hong Kong election

The World

This Sunday will mark a historic day in Hong Kong, though not everyone is excited about it. The Chinese territory will hold its first election under a new system imposed by Beijing — one in which every candidate must be a so-called “patriot,” meaning they must show pride in mainland China and its Communist government. Hong Kong politicians who question Beijing can’t run — and some have been locked up. As The World’s Patrick Winn reports, many Hong Kongers worry the city may never be the same.
