There is a mystique around North Korea, the so-called “Hermit Kingdom,” that inspires fascination around the globe. For years, North Korean officials have profited from that mystique by opening restaurants in Southeast Asia where curious customers could not just eat North Korean-style food, but also meet North Korean waitresses, while watching them sing and even dance. But now many of these overseas North Korean restaurants are closing. The World’s Patrick Winn reports.
