New Ebola findings upend understanding of the virus

Scientists have uncovered preliminary findings that are changing the way they understand Ebola. During a recent outbreak in Guinea, the first since the devastating West Africa outbreak in 2016, researchers discovered that the virus strain was strikingly similar to the one circulating five years ago. The resulting hypothesis is that Ebola could remain latent or reemerge in a patient who was infected during the earlier outbreak. The World’s Elana Gordon reports.
