In an historic feat, NASA has announced that one of its spacecraft has passed through the Sun’s outer atmosphere, known as the corona, 94 million miles away from Earth. The Parker Solar Probe was launched in 2018 and moves at a speed of 320,000 miles per hour. The goal is to make quick passes into the corona to make measurements of the solar environment with instruments protected behind a thick heat shield. Marco Werman speaks with a scientist to explain the significance of this milestone.
