Mysterious brain ailment known as ‘Havana syndrome’ affects former US diplomats

It’s an international mystery that seems to be ripped from a Cold War spy novel: US diplomats coming down with mysterious brain ailments while posted overseas. But in 2018, this was a reality for dozens of diplomats and spies posted at the US embassy in Cuba. This condition became known as “Havana syndrome.” Today, a handful of diplomatic workers stationed in China and Russia are coming forward with their own similar experiences. Dr. David Relman is a professor at Stanford and the chairman of the National Academies of Sciences committee investigating Havana syndrome.
