Moscow launches large-scale facial recognition tech on subway

Passengers on one of the world’s largest subway systems can now enter using facial recognition technology. City officials in Moscow say going cardless, cashless and phoneless will be much more convenient for travelers and that their data will be safe. But human rights groups say this move is the latest expansion of illegal surveillance on behalf of Vladimir Putin’s government.
