An international team of researchers is developing a technique to use sound to monitor the health of ecosystems around the world. Sarab Sethi, a researcher at Imperial College of London, says the new technique can help catch poachers and stop illegal logging. More importantly, he says, soundscapes can help scientists monitor the degradation of ecosystems, to try to prevent ecological collapse. The World’s Anna Kusmer reports.
