Meet the state-run tobacco company that’s keeping China hooked on cigarettes

The China National Tobacco Corp. sells more cigarettes than any other company in the world — by far. Despite the fact that the Chinese government signed an international treaty to curb tobacco use 20 years ago, China Tobacco has helped keep the country smoking. That’s the bottom line in a new investigative report published today by The Examination, a new nonprofit newsroom dedicated to investigating preventable health threats.
