Last president of apartheid South Africa F.W. de Klerk dies at 85

The World

On Thursday, F.W. de Klerk, the last president of apartheid South Africa, died at age 85. De Klerk was an Afrikaner, he came from a political family and he defended apartheid for most of his career. That changed when he became president. After releasing Nelson Mandela from prison, he worked with Mandela to end racial segregation and apartheid in the country. For that, both leaders were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. Host Marco Werman speaks with Dave Steward, the chairman of the FW de Klerk Foundation.
