Japan is gearing up for a carbon-free future

Japan’s government has pledged to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. But the resource-poor island nation has struggled to wean itself off coal. Last month, one railway in Tokyo switched its entire network to electricity derived from renewable energy. It’s the first time a railway has become entirely net carbon neutral. For a city that transports 20 million people by train every day, the reduction in carbon emissions is substantial. From Tokyo, Thisanka Siripala reports.
