Iraq elects new president following political breakthrough

Iraq’s parliament elected a new president on Thursday, marking an end to more than a year of political gridlock. The new president, Abdul Latif Rashid, quickly designated Muhammad al-Sudani as prime minister. The World’s Carol Hills spoke with Hamzeh Hadad, a visiting fellow with the European Council on Foreign Relations, about the significance of this political breakthrough.
