Indigenous delegation seeks apology from Pope during Vatican visit

For over a century, Indigenous children in Canada were sent to residential schools where they were distanced from their own culture and forced to assimilate into Western culture. Some 150,000 children are said to have been affected. While Pope Benedict and Pope Francis have previously expressed deep sorrow for the Catholic Church’s involvement with these schools, Indigenous groups have never received a formal apology from the Vatican. Now, a delegation of Indigenous leaders are flying to Rome to get one. The World’s Bianca Hillier reports.
