In Turkey, low school attendance rates for Syrian children are tied to govt policies

Turkey hosts millions of Syrian refugees — nearly half of them are children. Despite Turkey’s promise to enroll them all in school,1 in 3 Syrian children in the country are not attending classes. In the Turkish border city of Gaziantep, families say they’ve been barred from enrolling in classes because the schools in their neighborhood have “too many” foreigners.
