In ‘Solito,’ author Javier Zamora uses memory to heal from trauma of migration

The World

Imagine walking from New York to Alaska, Some 4,000 miles. Javier Zamora did that when he traveled from El Salvador to the US at the age of 9. At times, Zamora also rode in vans, buses, and boats, along with a small group of other migrants. An epic and dangerous journey to reunite with his parents in California. Nearly every detail of that harrowing journey is recounted in Zamora’s new memoir “Solito.” The World’s Marco Werman speaks to Zamora about memory, trauma and healing.
