As Haiti’s capital Port-Au-Prince has turned into a battlefield for armed gangs, gender-based violence has become a systematic problem. Thousands of women have been kidnapped for ransom money, and many have been collectively raped, or kept as sex slaves. Gang members act with complete immunity.
