Every August, towns all across Spain celebrate their local festivities, often called fiestas mayores, featuring, among others, funfairs, folk culture, live music by cover bands, and all kinds of bizarre competitions. It’s an occasion for neighbors to come together and rejoice — but some fiestas mayores have become so popular, and attract so many visitors, that locals wonder whether it’s still their party, or rather they’re putting up a show for someone else to enjoy.
