Illicit gold trade funds paramilitaries

Paramilitary groups such as Russia’s Wagner Group either own or control gold mines in Sudan and the Central African Republic with proceeds going to fund the groups’ activities. Host Marco Werman speaks with Marcena Hunter of the Global Initiative on Organized Crime about Wagner’s role in the African gold trade, and how the group’s mining activities might be affected should Wagner’s founder, Yevgeny Prigozhin, have died, as Russia has claimed.
