Barcelona is a technology hub where one of the planet’s most powerful computers operates. It’s about to get a serious upgrade with the arrival of MareNostrum5, a computer that will be 22 times faster than their fastest beast. This computer will be dedicated to medical research, including vaccine development for viruses. But it will also have big-data uses etc. It’s part of a growing Europe-wide network of supercomputers all tied together and working to solve issues ranging from health to climate change.
