Friday marks 25 years since Hong Kong was handed over to China by the United Kingdom. The anniversary also marked Chinese President Xi Jinping’s first visit to Hong Kong since the crackdown on pro-democracy protests in 2019. Host Carol Hills spoke with Eric Lai, who says democracy has eroded dramatically in Hong Kong over the past decades of Chinese control. He’s a Hong Kong law fellow at Georgetown University.
